The first in-person meeting with our new clients is an initial consultation which is a 90-minute meeting to get to know each other, understand the scope of work and give you initial design ideas for your project. To make the most of our time together, there are a few things you can do to prepare before our visit.

Tip #1 - Gather Inspiration Images

Sometimes, a picture really is worth a thousand words. When you say you love coastal modern, I have a picture in my head of your design style but without seeing a photo of what you consider to be coastal modern, I can’t be sure were are picturing the same design aesthetic. Images from your Pinterest board, Houzz ideabook, pictures clipped from magazines, screenshots from Instagram, etc. are all really helpful to have at this first meeting. Don’t worry about how those images translate to your space or if they don’t all feel cohesive, it’s our jobs as designers to adapt your style to your actual space. Beyond these images, we’ll do other activities to help determine your style and preferred aesthetic but these images are a very helpful starting point.

Tip #2 – Have a List of Questions

Write out a list of questions so you don’t forget to ask us something important. During our time together, we’ll walk you through our scope of services, design process and next steps; we’ll also give you some initial ideas for your home or office. In doing so we may answer some of your questions but please ask us about the details of the design process, pricing for design services, ask about our experience or about specific design issues in your space. Design for your home or office is a very personal process and we want you to feel completely comfortable and confident in working with us.

Tip #3 – Don’t Tidy Up Before We Come

We want to see how you truly live and work so that we can help you with the function of your home or office. We’d love to see that your mudroom cannot contain all of your coats and shoes, if you toss them all in the basement before we come, we can’t get an accurate representation of what you really need to store in the space. We promise, we are not judging you or your space, we are honored to be invited into your home and excited to help you make it even better.
